Climate & Carbon Lead
Are you a carbon and climate expert who understands both global frameworks and China’s Dual-Carbon Goals in depth? Do you thrive helping companies in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource sectors build credible decarbonisation strategies and navigate China’s fast-evolving carbon landscape? If so, this role is built for you.
What you can expect:
Preferred by Nature is looking for a Climate & Carbon Lead to drive our carbon and climate advisory work in China. You will deliver GHG assessments, decarbonisation strategies, and carbon project advisory to clients across agriculture, forestry, and natural resource sectors, helping them align with China’s Dual-Carbon Goals and international standards including GHG Protocol, SBTi, ISO 14067, and CSRD. Working closely with the China team and our global SER Division, you will build technical capacity internally, support sales and marketing, and help shape and grow Preferred by Nature’s carbon service offering in one of the world’s most dynamic climate markets.
Working with us is never routine, so in your first year you can expect the following areas to be central to your work.
Conduct GHG assessments, product carbon footprint analyses, and Scope 3 emission reviews for clients across agriculture, forestry, and downstream sectors.
Support clients in setting science-based targets and developing decarbonisation roadmaps aligned with China’s Dual-Carbon Goals and international frameworks.
Provide technical advisory on carbon project development, AFOLU carbon accounting, and compliance with standards such as ISO 14067, GHG Protocol, and the Land Sector and Removals Standard.
Deliver training and capacity-building for clients on GHG calculation, carbon footprint management, and climate disclosure (SBTi, CDP, CSRD).
Support carbon-related marketing activities in China, including events and webinars, and adapt PbN’s carbon service portfolio to the China market context.
Build in-house technical capacity within the China team on carbon and climate methodologies.
Support sales efforts by scoping client needs, preparing proposals, and attending client meetings.
Your first year with us:
Within three months, you will:
Gain a thorough understanding of Preferred by Nature’s mission, China strategy, and existing SER service portfolio.
Complete onboarding on internal systems and begin delivering billable GHG advisory work for assigned clients.
Build strong working relationships with the China team and global SER colleagues.
Within six months, you will:
Independently lead GHG assessments, decarbonisation strategy projects, and carbon footprint engagements for a growing client portfolio.
Contribute to sales pipeline development and actively support client scoping, proposals, and business development in China.
Support carbon-related marketing activities, begin adapting PbN’s carbon service portfolio to the China context, and deliver structured knowledge-sharing for the China team.
Within twelve months, you will:
Develop and refine a portfolio of carbon advisory engagements from scoping to delivery, with consistent quality and client satisfaction.
Play a leading role in expanding Preferred by Nature’s carbon service offering in China, including contributing to AFOLU carbon project advisory.
Serve as the internal technical authority on carbon and climate for the China team, supporting colleagues and contributing to service and methodology development.
Important that you:
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, Life Cycle Assessment, climate change, energy management, low-carbon economy, or a related field.
Bring 8 or more years of hands-on experience in GHG assessment, with specific exposure to Scope 3 emissions, product carbon footprint, and LCA in agriculture, forestry, or natural resource sectors.
Have deep understanding of GHG Protocol, SBTi, and IPCC methodologies.
Are familiar with Chinese carbon market mechanisms, including CCER, and sectoral decarbonisation pathways.
Are fluent in Mandarin and English, both written and spoken.
Possess strong data analysis, report-writing, and client-facing communication skills.
Have work experience in an international organisation or a leading company in your sector.
Would also be great, but not necessary, if you:
Have work experience in a verification body or sustainability consulting firm.
Are familiar with GHG digital tools and ESG management systems or ratings.
Hold a qualified GHG manager certification or GRI certificate.
Have experience with ISO 14040, ISO 14044, and the GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you!
