Do you want to apply your project implementation skills, GIS, and remote sensing expertise to support sustainability, land management, and climate-related initiatives while contributing to meaningful impact? If so, the Project and Remote Sensing Specialist role, based in Ghana, could be the ideal opportunity for you.
What you can expect:
As a Project and Remote Sensing Specialist, you will support mission-driven projects in Ghana by contributing to project development, planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning, while providing geospatial and remote sensing technical expertise.
Your work will support decision-making and project delivery through:
GIS, remote sensing, drone mapping, and spatial data analysis
Project coordination and implementation support
Monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and learning activities
You will work closely with Project Managers, Program Managers, internal teams, and project partners, and contribute to Preferred by Nature’s broader mission-driven project portfolio.
Working with us is never routine so in the first year, you can expect the following areas to be central to your work.
Collect, manage, and analyse geospatial data (GIS, remote sensing, drone, GPS) to support project design, planning, implementation, and decision-making.
Plan and conduct drone surveys and mapping activities in compliance with national regulations, ensuring proper maintenance and safe use of equipment.
Produce maps, spatial analysis outputs, and visual products (e.g., infographics) to support baseline studies, risk assessments, reporting, and project monitoring.
Support project development and implementation through data coordination, reporting, partner collaboration, and ensuring activities meet quality, budget, and timeline requirements.
Contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and learning by tracking project progress using geospatial tools, analysing trends, and supporting training of staff and partners.
Maintain spatial data systems and documentation, support SOP development, identify new spatial technologies, and provide technical and administrative support to project teams and partners.
Your first year with us:

Gain a solid understanding of Preferred by Nature’s mission-driven projects in Ghana, including project objectives, partners, and reporting requirements
Become fully operational with internal GIS systems, spatial data standards, drone equipment, data storage platforms, and safety and legal compliance requirements
Support ongoing projects by producing maps, spatial datasets, and analysis outputs under guidance from the Project Manager or Program Manager
Within six months, you will:
Independently manage GIS, remote sensing, and drone-related tasks for assigned projects, including data collection, spatial analysis, and map production
Actively support project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting through high-quality geospatial inputs and visual outputs
Contribute to knowledge sharing by supporting staff and partners with training on GIS tools, GPS use, or spatial data collection methods
Within one year, you will:
Lead geospatial components of projects, including baseline studies, risk assessments, monitoring frameworks, and decision-support analysis
Develop and improve standard operating procedures for GIS, drone operations, data management, and spatial analysis
Provide advanced technical guidance and training to colleagues and partners, and contribute to innovation through adoption of new spatial technologies
Important that you:
Hold a degree or postgraduate qualification in GIS, Surveying, Natural Resources, Engineering, or a related discipline
Have a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in GIS, remote sensing, or spatial data analysis
Have strong skills in geospatial data collection, processing, and integration of GIS, remote sensing, and drone outputs
