Legal Specialist

What you can expect:
As a Legal Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth management of our legal agreements and contracts, supporting internal teams with legal guidance, and maintaining high standards of compliance and risk management. Your work will contribute directly to enabling our global sustainability mission.
You will help drive improvements in contract processes, manage the contract lifecycle, and collaborate with both internal teams and external legal advisors. Upon joining Preferred by Nature, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop the skills needed to manage legal workflows, support risk management, and strengthen governance processes—all while contributing to sustainability.
Working with us is never routine so the first year you can expect the following areas to be central to your work.
- Manage the full lifecycle of legal agreements, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and tracking service, client, consultant, and lease contracts.
- Review and approve agreements to ensure compliance with legal standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee contract execution, monitor expirations, manage renewals, amendments, and maintain accurate records in Salesforce.
- Support risk management, contract governance, insurance matters, and ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Act as the primary point of contact for contract-related queries and coordinate with external legal advisors when needed.
- Contribute to policy reviews, process improvements, and maintain and update contract templates in line with evolving regulations.
Your first year with us
Within three months, you will:
- Gain a solid understanding of Preferred by Nature’s legal framework, agreement types, and internal tools and processes (e.g., Salesforce, contract templates, risk registers).
- Confident in reviewing and approving standard, low-risk agreements under supervision; assist with tracking contract execution, expiration, and renewals.
- Support legal recordkeeping, participate in legal team meetings, and start building working relationships with internal teams across departments.
Within six months, you will:
- Independently manage review and approval of diverse agreement types, ensuring compliance with legal standards and organizational policies.
- Visible team contributor. Proactive in identifying and reporting common contractual risks or issues; support template revisions and contribute to improving legal processes and documentation.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal agreement-related queries; coordinate with external legal advisors for specific cases when needed.
- Helps drive project development milestones – e.g. agreement record revamp.
Within one year, you will:
- Operates at full capacity and minimal oversight on end-to-end contract lifecycle management across regions, including negotiation and execution oversight.
- Drive optimization of legal workflows and Salesforce processes; ensure data accuracy, template updates, and compliance with evolving regulations.
- Deliver high quality work even in complex or ambiguous context; contribute to policy and procedural reviews, risk reduction, strategic clarity and organizational reputation; and represent the legal team in cross-functional or strategic initiatives.
Important that you:
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law (or equivalent legal qualification) from a recognized university, law school, or equivalent accredited educational institution
- Minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in legal advisory, corporate law, contract law, compliance, or related fields.
- Experience working with international contracts, cross-border legal matters
- Familiarity with the international legal frameworks
- Experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Proficient in legal research and legal document management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English & Spanish
Would also be great, but not necessary, if you:
- Previous experience in an international NGO, sustainability organization, or multinational environment, private sector compliance is an advantage
- Can speak other languages
