Senior Finance Project Specialist, Vietnam

What you can expect:
As a Senior Finance Project Specialist, you will ensure accurate financial management of external projects. You will be responsible for monitoring project expenses, preparing financial reports for donors, and ensuring compliance with funder and internal financial procedures. You will work closely with project partners and consultants to support budgeting, agreements, and payments while ensuring financial transparency across multiple projects.
Working with us is never routine so in the first year, you can expect the following areas to be central to your work.
- Monitor and track project budgets, ensuring expenses align with funder agreements, financial guidelines, and internal policies.
- Prepare and submit financial reports for donors and internal stakeholders, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.
- Coordinate with project partners and consultants, reviewing and consolidating financial reports, verifying expenses, and managing payments.
- Support project audits and donor compliance reviews, preparing documentation and addressing queries from auditors and funding agencies.
- Assist in the development of project budgets for new funding proposals, collaborating with project managers to ensure financial feasibility.
- Improve financial tracking and reporting processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency and enhanced financial transparency.
Your first year with us:
Within three months, you will:
- Gain a strong understanding of Preferred by Nature’s mission, financial processes, and donor-funded project requirements.
- Establish financial oversight by reviewing funder agreements, project budgets, and expense tracking.
- Coordinate with project partners to collect, review, and ensure timely financial submissions.
Within six months, you will:
- Take full ownership of financial reporting, preparing donor-specific reports and addressing auditor queries.
- Lead the budgeting process for fundraising proposals, collaborating with project managers to adjust financial planning.
- Improve financial tracking processes, enhancing efficiency in expense monitoring and reporting.
Within one year, you will:
- Develop and refine financial management procedures to improve compliance and reporting accuracy.
- Provide financial insights to leadership, identifying cost-saving opportunities across projects.
- Act as a key financial liaison for donors, auditors, and internal teams, ensuring transparency and compliance.
Important that you:
- Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Have 8+ years of experience in financial management, budgeting, or project finance, preferably in an international or NGO setting.
- Possess experience managing donor-funded projects (EU, UN, USAID) with a strong understanding of compliance.
- Are proficient in financial management software, with experience in Salesforce and FinancialForce being an advantage.
- Strong advanced Excel skills
- Have good command of English (both written and spoken).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess financial risks and project viability.
- Excellent communication skills – ability to translate complex financial data for non-financial stakeholders.
Would also be great, but not necessary, if you:
- Hold a CPA, CMA, ACCA, or PMP certification related to project financial management.
- Have experience working in an NGO or international organization with multi-partner financial coordination.
