What you can expect:
As an Environmental Auditor (Forest Management & Forest Products), you will play a critical role in delivering sustainability certification services for clients in the forestry and forest products sector. You’ll be responsible for managing a portfolio of certified clients, conducting sustainability audits, and ensuring compliance with certification standards such as FSC, SFI, and PEFC. Your expertise will help drive positive environmental impact in line with Preferred by Nature’s mission.
You will start with training to become a lead auditor and progressively grow your role, taking on additional responsibilities in project management, technical guidance, and supporting the growth of sustainable certification services.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Manage a portfolio of certified clients, ensuring audits are scheduled, conducted, and completed on time.
- Work on budgeting, logistical planning, and report review, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Conduct sustainability audits on-site and remotely as required, ensuring clients meet certification standards.
- Act as the primary point of contact for new and existing clients, providing guidance and support for sustainable certifications.
- Collaborate with the team to identify growth opportunities for new and existing certification services.
- Attain lead auditor qualifications for the relevant sustainability certifications.
- Continue developing expertise across multiple programs and departments within Preferred by Nature.
Your first year with us
First three months
- Complete comprehensive training in FSC and other certification standards, gaining skills needed to conduct audits.
- Familiarize yourself with Preferred by Nature’s systems, auditing tools, and key clients.
- Begin managing a small portfolio of clients, ensuring audits are scheduled and processes are followed.
Next six months
- Work towards lead auditor qualification for FSC and other relevant standards.
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, providing ongoing technical guidance and support.
- Take on more project management tasks, including logistical planning, report review, and quality control.
Final three months
- Attain lead auditor status for FSC and begin supporting certifications such as SFI, PEFC, and others.
- Serve as a task manager for audits, overseeing quality control and ensuring compliance with standards.
- Contribute to the team’s efforts to grow the certification portfolio and expand services
Important Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education plus two years of professional experience in the forestry and/or forest products sector, or secondary education plus four years of experience in the sector.
- Knowledge of FSC, SFI, PEFC, and sustainability certifications.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Excellent customer service orientation and ability to understand and respond to client needs.
- Direct auditing experience with FSC or other forestry certification schemes would be an asset.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for audits and client engagements.
